. my grandpa's amazing inventions .

Templar Publishing

This is my first self written and illustrated book. When Grandpa is invited to take part in 'The World's Latest and Greatest Invention Contest' ( Grandpa Category ), he can't think what to make. A Deep-Sea-Tentaclon? A Multi-Action-Dirtoid-Digga? Mechanical Flip-Flappers? Finally he decides, his invention is amazing - of course. But its what he comes up with next that's best of all!

"It's a secret," he winked. "You'll have to wait and see."'

'"Hey! I could build us some Fabulously-Feathered-Mechanical-Flip-Flappers!" Grandpa said, waving his arms and leaping about. "We could fly with the birds, over the tallest towers and into the clouds! Up, up and away!"'

The idea for this story was born from my love of fixing and making things, which is a bit of a hobby of mine. I think it is probably a trait that has been passed down through my family to me when I was a child. My story featured on the Cbeebies channel, have a look here: Shane Richie reads 'My Grandpa's Amazing Inventions' broadcast by the BBC.

. the three little pigs .

Child's Play | Fip Up Book

'Once upon a time, there were three little pigs, who lived in a fine house with their mother. One day she decided that it was time for them to go out into the world. Before they left she warned them of the big, bad wolf.'

This version of 'The Three Little Pigs' features flaps which the reader can interact with throughout the book to reveal hidden details. I tried to give the text a slight twist by making the third little pig a girl, who is obviously the most sensible of the three pigs.

'"I'ts the big , bad wolf," said the big, bad wolf. "and if you don't let me in, I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down!"'

. peter pan .

Macmillan Children's Books'

'"And now to rescue Wendy!" cried Peter. He armed himself with knifes and a sword and made his way through the forest, careful not to disturb the beasts below. "Hook or me, this time!"'

Originally written by J.M Barrie, follow Peter Pan and Wendy on a breathtaking journey to a land of fierce pirates, beautiful fairies and children who never grow old - a land where adventures is never far away.

This book features six, twenty four piece, jigsaw puzzles and forms part of Macmillan's jigsaw puzzle book collection.

'Stealthily, Hook climbed down to the grotto. There was Peter fast asleep and defenceless, unaware of the action above. On a ledge within easy reach was Peter's medicine, to which Hook now added five drops of poison with a shaking hand. Then he turned and struggled back up the tree.'

. cadbury's easter range .

Easter Packaging

I was approached by Cadbury to help them produce some imagery for their Easter chocolate cake range. The illustrations had to be various friendly animal characters, including Rabbits and Chicks. These would then be placed onto the packaging to decorate the product range.

This was a nice job to work on. Especially as it meant I was given lots of chocolate cake to eat!

. around the world in eighty tales .

Kingfisher Publishing | 176 Pages

This collection of stories written by Saviour Pirotta, whizzes the reader around the world, exploring six different continents through re-tellings of traditional tales. Featuring weird and wonderful plots, amazing characters and exotic locations, these stories are hilarious and moving in turn.

This is my second book working with Saviour Pirotta it contains eighty tales and over eighty illustrations.

'The rooster gobbled one last worm and on they went together - the rooster, the skunk, the bull, the goat, the dog, the cat and Jack the lad. That night they came across a house in the middle of the woods. They peeped in through the window and saw a gang of thieves sitting around a table counting gold.'

'She sliced the top off the pumpkin and there inside it was a little baby with golden eyes, his knees tucked tightly under his chin'

. magazines and newspapers .

Radio Times Magazine | The Times Newspaper | Sky Magazine

Here are some examples of work that has been commissioned for editorial purposes, magazines and newspapers. I have been commissioned to illustrate for the Radio Times magazine and illustrated their Easter week and Christmas week television listings as well as a number of radio show listings.

I have also been commissioned by the Times Newspaper. One of my favourite pieces was 'They Have Ways of Making You Spend', for their money section.

. the fourth wiseman .

Lion Hudson Publishing

Written by Mary Joslin, The Fourth Wiseman is a re-telling of a French legend, showing that there is more to Christmas than anything money can buy.

The bright star in the night sky tells of great news: a new king has been born! Four astronomers know that they simply have to go and worship him. But what sort of present should they take such a child?

This was my third book for Lion Hudson publishing and I enjoyed designing the characters and costumes in this book.

'He went to the strong chest in the innermost room of his house. He lifted the lid and chuckled as his hoard of gold glinted in the lamplight. "I shall fill a casket with some of my riches," he said. "That will be the perfect gift to take to a royal baby."'
